- Cultural awareness. Most of my career has been with global teams. This experience has taught me much about how cultural differences shape communication, disagreement, decision-making, and more.
- Communication. George Orwell said, “if people cannot write well, they cannot think well.” Clear writing requires clear thinking. I write to inspire, persuade and educate others. I created this website, in part, to sharpen my writing skills.
- Collaboration. Effective teams undergird all successful companies. I love to mentor and coach others. In fact, I think coaching is my primary leadership style. I foster teamwork and promote trust, accountability, client-focus, and results orientation.
- Client-focused. The effective IT Pro is a consultant. I always seek to understand the client’s need before suggesting a solution.
- Leadership. I have never been an executive or business leader, but I have led small teams both at work and church, positions which involved casting vision, shaping culture, and driving results. The topic of leadership fascinates me, and I enjoy reading about it and learning from other experienced leaders.
- Curiosity. I am an insatiable student, always seeking to learn new things, improve myself, and share my learnings with others.

Accomplishments
IT Manager, New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, 2019 - present
Manage a department of 12 people and the IT infrastructure including about 100 servers, 200 network devices, and 300 workstations. Also acted as senior systems and network engineer.
- Leadership and management. Conducted weekly 1:1s and quarterly performance reviews. Fostered an open, collaborative work environment. Defined mission, strategy and related KPIs. Introduced lean, agile & ITSM practices that reduced lead time by 80%, vulnerable systems by 90%, IT outages by 80% and opex by 10%. Achieved and maintained 90-100% customer satisfaction.
- System administration. Instituted proactive lifecycle management processes for PCs, servers and network devices. Designed, implemented and managed Jira as IT’s work management platform. Implemented network automation with Ansible. Instituted version control of IT Ops scripts and basic CI/CD.
- Project Management. Applied agile practices to outperform all other departments on project management metrics. Managed the IT aspects of the organization’s COVID response, enabling a fully in-office organization to quickly and safely transition to fully remote within 3 days, with no impact to the organization’s core functions. Managed the organization’s cloud migration including the phone system and contact center.
IT Manager, Freudenbergi Medical, 2016 - 2019
Manager and senior engineer responsible for 3 engineers and hundreds of servers across 12 global locations that provided IT services to over 1000 employees.
- Automation. Automated server provisioning, patching, and many other operational tasks. Implemented zero-touch desktop deployment process using Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager that enabled the upgrade of a global, multilingual fleet of 700 global PCs to Windows 10 in less than a year.
- Project management. Led the design, deployment and adoption of Office 365. Managed several IT acquisition projects that doubled the size of the IT environment. Deployed a global backup solution. Replaced the primary SAN.
- Leadership and management. Developed and executed strategy. Managed a global team of three engineers. Fostered a client-focused, results-oriented, and agile culture in a global team.
- Information security. Wrote many of the foundational security policies. Implemented security baseline configurations on PCs and servers. Deployed Cisco Umbrella and AMP. Wrote a basic SIEM tool to alert on suspicious Windows events across the enterprise. Implemented Azure Sentinel for critical servers.
IT Systems Engineer, L-3 Insight Technologies, 2014 - 2016
- System administration. Designed and installed a Netapp 8020 cluster with geographic redundancy. Redesigned the AD group policy and OU structure to improve performance and security, with minimal impact to end users.
- Automation. Saved hundreds of man hours by automating PC and server provisioning, patching and employee onboarding. Wrote scripts to facilitate the configuration of systems that met DoD security requirements as measured by SCAP.
- Obtained secret security clearance.
IT Systems Engineer, Freudenberg, 2006 - 2014
- System administration. Designed and implemented a global virtualization project that migrated hundreds of servers at 40 locations worldwide to VMware clusters using virtual SAN technology. Solely managed global server & storage infrastructure for several years..
- Automation. Saved hundreds of service desk hours by fully automating server provisioning, patching, new account setup and many other operational tasks.
- Software development. Developed a web-based inventory tool for server assets based on C#, IIS and MSSQL. Developed and deployed a lightweight Windows service that ensured the organization’s thousands of workstations rebooted safely to complete patch installation.
